Shared Services – A Success Story

In light of the financial pressures facing the public sector, many organisations are considering the benefits and savings that may accrue from Shared Services, especially in back office and corporate functions. Alan Kirkham, Service Director ICT and Procurement of Wakefield Council will give an overview of the Association of West Yorkshire Authorities’ (AWYA) Shared Service Programme and provide a wider update on the current ‘state of the market’ in relation to shared services. Liz Smith, Executive Director and Deputy Chief Executive of Hambleton and Richmondshire District Councils will give an overview of their successful implementation of a Shared Services model. The presentation will be a reflection of their experience and highlight some of the issues they have faced including governance arrangements and generating financial savings.
